Overview
Set on the edge of the South Downs National Park, Southwick Estate offers exceptional traditional driven shooting in one of Hampshire's most historic and picturesque landscapes. Combining classic partridge shooting over rolling chalk downs with beautifully presented pheasants from mature woodland rides, the estate delivers a varied and rewarding sporting experience throughout the season. Steeped in history, Southwick is far more than a sporting estate. At its heart lies Southwick House, famously used as General Dwight D. Eisenhower's headquarters during the planning of the D-Day landings. Today, that rich heritage is matched by a modern commitment to first-class sport, conservation, and hospitality. Each shoot day is personally hosted by Harry, whose extensive experience in gamekeeping and shoot management ensures every detail is delivered to the highest standard. From the quality of the birds to the warm welcome in the new Shoot Lodge, Southwick Estate offers a traditional English shoot where sporting excellence and hospitality go hand in hand.
A Day In The Field
A day at Southwick Estate begins in the estate's beautifully appointed Shoot Lodge, where guests are welcomed with freshly brewed coffee or morning tea alongside warm breakfast rolls before the day's sport begins. The morning's drives make full use of the estate's varied landscape, from sporting partridges sweeping across the rolling chalk downs to elegant pheasants rising cleanly above mature woodland rides. Each drive has been carefully developed to showcase the natural contours of the estate, offering challenging yet enjoyable shooting for Guns of all abilities. Mid-morning, the Gun Bus becomes the centre of attention as elevenses are served in the field. Fresh game goujons, venison sliders, and homemade sausage rolls are prepared on site, accompanied by a selection of drinks, creating a memorable break before returning to the next drive. Following the morning's sport, guests return to the Shoot Lodge for a relaxed two-course lunch featuring locally sourced ingredients, complemented by a carefully selected range of wines, beers, and soft drinks. The afternoon continues with further drives across the estate before concluding in the same welcoming atmosphere in which the day began. Throughout every stage of the experience, Southwick Estate combines outstanding bird presentation, seamless organisation, and exceptional hospitality, delivering a traditional English shoot that reflects the character, history, and beauty of this remarkable Hampshire estate.
About The Area
Situated within the rolling Hampshire countryside on the edge of the South Downs National Park, Southwick Estate enjoys an enviable setting among sweeping chalk hills, ancient woodland, and traditional farmland. The surrounding landscape provides the ideal natural terrain for classic driven shooting, with open downs producing sporting partridges and mature woodland creating superb pheasant drives. The estate is renowned not only for its natural beauty but also for its historical importance. Southwick House played a pivotal role during the Second World War as the Allied headquarters for Operation Overlord, adding a unique sense of heritage to an already remarkable setting. Alongside its sporting traditions, Southwick is committed to the conservation of the native Grey Partridge. Through habitat restoration, conservation headlands, carefully managed hedgerows, and extensive wild bird cover planting, the estate is helping to restore populations of one of Britain's most iconic farmland birds while supporting a rich diversity of wildlife across the wider landscape. Despite its peaceful rural setting, Southwick Estate is exceptionally well connected, with easy access from the M3, M27, and A3, placing it within an hour of London and close to major airports, ports, and rail connections.
