Troughton Hall

Troughton Hall offers a standout driven shooting experience set within the dramatic landscape of the Lake District. Positioned among the rugged fells and sweeping valleys of this iconic region, the shoot is renowned for delivering high-quality, high-bird sport in a truly unforgettable setting. This is very much a high-bird estate, known for presenting testing and sporting birds that make full use of the natural contours and elevation changes across the ground. The day is primarily focused on driven partridge, complemented by a single, well-managed duck drive that adds variety without shifting the emphasis away from quality shooting. Ducks are presented in a sporting ratio, ensuring the focus remains on well-flying, challenging birds rather than volume. Troughton Hall is designed for Guns who appreciate refined, small-bag driven days, where attention to detail, consistent bird quality, and well-organised sport are the priority.

A day at Troughton Hall begins with coffee and a warm welcome, followed by a relaxed briefing before heading out onto the ground. The emphasis throughout is on well-paced, high-quality sport delivered in a friendly and professional atmosphere. The morning consists of carefully selected drives across the estate, where driven partridge are presented at height and speed, making full use of the natural contours of the Lake District landscape. These are testing birds that reward focus and good shooting, offering a consistently engaging experience throughout. A single duck drive is included in the day, providing a change of pace and a different sporting challenge while maintaining the estate’s focus on quality presentation. Lunch is served as part of full hospitality provided throughout the day, giving Guns the opportunity to relax, enjoy excellent food, and reflect on the morning’s sport. The afternoon continues with further thoughtfully arranged drives, before the day draws to a smooth and well-managed close, leaving a lasting impression of high-quality shooting in one of the country’s most spectacular regions.

Set within one of Britain’s most celebrated landscapes, Troughton Hall lies in the heart of the Lake District, surrounded by dramatic fells, deep valleys, and open moorland. The terrain is defined by its natural contours—steep slopes, craggy ridges, and expansive views that create both a breathtaking backdrop and ideal conditions for high, testing driven birds. The Lake District is internationally recognised for its outstanding natural beauty, shaped by glacial landscapes and centuries of traditional upland farming. Stone walls divide patchwork fields, while scattered woodland and open fell combine to create a uniquely atmospheric sporting environment. Despite its remote feel, the region is well connected to northern transport routes, making it accessible while still offering a genuine sense of escape. It remains one of the UK’s most sought-after destinations for high-quality driven shooting in wild, natural surroundings.
