Overview
We're excited to offer a unique opportunity for a limited number of teams to join us at Frochas - a 2,500-acre estate tucked away on the stunning Llyn Peninsula, dedicated solely to driven woodcock and snipe shooting. Until recently, Frochas has remained a private haven, shot only by family and close friends on a handful of days each season. With the space and woodland we have at our disposal, we are able to shoot every day from December through to the end of January, offering flexible booking across the full winter season. On a good day, you can expect to see 70+ woodcock lifts, with the occasional snipe added to the bag.
A Day In The Field
Your day begins with a hearty breakfast before heading out to the shoot. As these are entirely wild bird days, every outing is shaped by the birds, the weather and the landscape, creating a truly authentic sporting experience. The day is typically structured around six drives. We usually start with two morning drives before breaking for elevenses, providing an opportunity to warm up, enjoy refreshments and discuss the morning's sport. Two further drives follow before a relaxed lunch in the field, where guests can enjoy good food and excellent company. After lunch, the afternoon continues with another two drives, making the most of the birds' natural movements across the ground. As the light begins to fade, there is time to reflect on the day's shooting before taking position for the final flight. Waiting for the sun to set and the birds to return to roost is often one of the most memorable moments of the day, offering exciting sport in a spectacular setting. While bags can never be guaranteed on wild bird days, we operate a maximum-effort policy. Your host and their team will be out on the ground the evening before, scouting and monitoring bird movements to ensure you are positioned on the most productive drives possible. This commitment, combined with intimate local knowledge and carefully managed ground, gives guests the very best opportunity to enjoy a successful and rewarding day in the field.
About The Area
The Llŷn Peninsula is one of Wales’ best-kept secrets, a spectacular stretch of coastline that reaches into the Irish Sea from the north-west corner of the country. Renowned for its unspoilt beaches, dramatic cliffs, rolling farmland and charming seaside villages, the peninsula offers visitors a chance to experience a quieter, more authentic side of Wales. Designated as a National Landscape, the Llŷn is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Walkers can explore miles of coastal paths with breathtaking sea views, while wildlife lovers may spot grey seals, dolphins and a variety of seabirds along the shoreline. Hidden coves, wide sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters provide endless opportunities for relaxation, swimming and adventure. Beyond its natural beauty, the Llŷn Peninsula is rich in history and culture. It remains one of the strongest Welsh-speaking regions in the country, where local traditions and a deep connection to the land continue to shape everyday life. Historic churches, Iron Age hillforts and ancient pilgrimage routes offer fascinating glimpses into the area’s past. Popular destinations include the vibrant harbour town of Abersoch, the picturesque village of Aberdaron and the stunning beaches of Porthor, better known as Whistling Sands. Visitors can also take a boat trip to Bardsey Island, a wildlife-rich island steeped in legend and spiritual significance. Whether you are seeking coastal adventure, peaceful countryside escapes or a deeper connection with Welsh heritage, the Llŷn Peninsula offers a unique and unforgettable destination where nature, culture and history come together.
